To sign a surety bond, a person is eligible only if he is a Government employee, or owns a property.
It means that even if I am earning Rs 1 lac per month, but dont have any property to my name, I cannot sign a surety Bond of Rs20,000 or for that matter any amount at all. But on the other hand, a guy (working in any government organization) earning Rs 2000 a month is eligible to do so.
Strange are the ways of this world!!
(The source for the above info is my advocate, Ms Vasanthi. The pic on left was taken outside the court building. The building is being renovated. Wish they could renovate some of the legal processes too. )
