Be fair

‘Be fair’,  were his parting words

‘even to those who gave you this heartburn’.

And I  delved deep into those words

to absorb the underlying sense and wisdom
.
.
I tried to reach out to the other side

and made sure that I kept my promise.

But all I could see in the forbidden land

was some ugliness and lots of malice.
.
.
I retraced back my steps

with a pained and a heavy heart.

And that is how I erased those memories,

pretending we had never met.
