The Eureka Moment

If you want to avoid eating any form of junk food, or eat less of the food from outside – all you have to do is to eat home made healthy food frequently, and keep your tummy filled enough to complain and crave for sinful treats đŸ™‚

Week 1

Most of my life I had been blamed for underestimating my own capabilities. But this time it had been the other way round. This time I over estimated  myself. I pushed the limits, and realized them only when they pushed me back! In the process I got to learn a few important things – and the most useful learning has been to know when to stop.

Past week had been an exercise in self restraint, moderate physical activity, and promises to be a fitter me. I have been regular with my morning walks. And breakfast. And lunch. For first time in , well, I don’t know in how many months! My lunch has always been a quick-fix kind of thing! And dinner has been usually worse! It still is. I need to work on that point.

This week, I am continuing the same routine. I still have to include milk as part of my regular routine.   In not so distant past I used to love milk so much that I would have it twice or sometimes even thrice a day. It was my comfort food.

………………

I love my morning walks. They give me the burst of energy I so need to see myself through the day. Especially the next one hour, which is so full of tasks to be done, calm to be maintained, and making sure that I still look human before stepping out of home to drop Diya off to school!

Indicators exist for a purpose

.. and NO.. not just for being just another ‘feature’ in your hi-tech car!

Left rear indicatorIndicator lights are amber in colour and can be located at the front, the rear and sometimes at the side of the car on both the left and right hand sides. You use your indicators to show an intended change of direction, whether turning left or right or moving out into traffic.

Use them in good time, giving other road users plenty of time to react and adapt to your signal.

Please understand them before a harried mother who is left to judge your intentions solely on the basis of her instincts and past experiences fails for this one time and drags you to court for being such a nuisance on road..

(Dedicated to the driver of a black Honda City who decided that the road belongs to his ancestors and that gives him the privilege of being an impulsive idiot who can take a sharp turn to left, without warning others driving behind him)

One step forward, and two steps back…

This is how things are at my end these days!!

I wake up early, go for a walk, do some yoga.. have a lavish breakfast and eat moderately throughout the day. I go for one hour aerobics in the evening (not regularly though.. and when I miss those classes, I try to make up for them by doing yoga at home).

And then…

I go and grab a scoop of ice-cream from the refrigerator, or rush to the ice-cream parlor near our house ..

When I don’t even like ice-cream that much!!

And no, I don’t think my body is craving for some food! I feed it every couple of hours  – just to keep cravings at bay!

(Though the tag to this post says ‘TowardsFitness’, I should have used something like ‘RunningAwayFromFitness’)

Playing in loop!

Lyrics from here

Back to the routine..

Of feeling and counting every bone and muscle in my body!!

It is amazing how age dulls all your senses and allows only pain to be clear and overwhelming!!

And so here I am with my weak knees, low stamina, aching bones, and crying joints!! All because I have joined aerobics back again!

From being able to dance all night to taking a break every five minutes, my body has come a long way… I have started respecting it more now for the fact that it is able to do what it does for those five minutes atleast! This comes despite all the abuse and ill treatment that I have subjected it to..

Parenting – Outsourced!

Having a child is one of the most important decisions that we make in life. I won’t get into cases where the couple is ‘forced’ to have a child due to society and family pressure. I am more interested in those who make this choice on their own.

What does having a child mean?

While I am against ‘sacrificing’ one’s life and letting the child completely ‘rule’ your world, I am equally appalled when I see those who have a kid and completely outsource the nurturing part to others – grandparents, maids, ….

What is it that our kids should get from us?

No, it is not just good food, clothes or expensive toys.

Don’t they deserve a physical proximity, a loving hug, kisses, verbal and non-verbal assurances that they are not alone?

I don’t believe in keeping scorecards for parents. Each has his/her own method and should not be judged on any basis. But to be called a parent, one needs to behave like one. And no, I am not against getting help.  But we need to get more involved.. It is the least we can do for our kids who are facing a world that is much more harsher than it has been for us.
